There are many ways to give to the Lawrence Schools Foundation.
Gifts of Securities
The Foundation is happy to accept gifts of securities. In order to preserve tax advantages, it is important that you give the securities to us rather than liquidate them and donating the proceeds. If you donate stock that has risen in value and that you’ve held for more than one year, you pay no capital gains tax when you make the gift and are entitled to a charitable deduction as allowed by law. If you have stock losses, you might consider selling the stock yourself to realize the loss for tax purposes, and then contribute the cash and take a charitable deduction.
Please call us for a transfer information form for any gift of securities to the Foundation.
Gifs of Real Estate
If you own property that is not subject to a mortgage and has appreciated in value, a charitable gift may be an attractive option. You may claim an income tax deduction for property held for more than one year based upon the fair market value of the property, avoid capital gains taxes and remove that asset from your taxable estate. Due to the complexities involved, we encourage you to contact us to discuss any gift of real estate.
